I haven’t sacrificed the W123 or 240Z so its all ok. I like this thing, it drives well and has full time AWD with stability something or other. It was an old ladies, a 2006, clean like dealership new, has 90k miles and drives like new. I got it for just under $10K, dealer consignment purchase so they do the DMV bullshit for me, the old lady even has it registered until 2016. I have a bulldog and he needs good A/C, I need A/C when I do shows further south in CA and get stuck in traffic, my old Accord DX with no AC is mechanically fine but I am just not ok with it anymore. So I wanted a dog car, do anything car that I could hose down, something my wife could drive (foreigner learning to drive in the USA). I drove it around today, its great for what its for. I have the Z for kicks.

Here’s an interesting fact I found when I was reading about previous Ferraris selling at auctions last night. The wheels on your CR-V is made by the same manufacturer that made Ferrari Mondial, Dino, 308 and Daytona wheels.

There is some value in owning an “appliance” style vehicle. Knowing that you have a vehicle that over 99% of the time will start, go, keep cool, and get out of it’s own way nomatter what the day is like outside and you can keep the nice things nice during the rough seasons is a lot of peace of mind.

Its going in for phase 2 soon, some more upgrades and work. I will have more photos in a couple weeks. New wheels, you can see the change. It has triple Weber 45s and a 5 speed. Disks for the rear are going on soon.

Yeah I do have a certain amount of worry with the older cars. I don’t worry that the diesel Mercedes will not start, its a cockroach but the A/C going on a really hot day will make the engine temp climb. I am thinking of finding a really fancy radiator for it, not sure what will fit. I got a triple core in my Z now. Sometimes you just need that normal experience, my Z is a triple carbed monster and has its quirks, the Merc is like a diesel truck and you have to think ahead to know when the turbo will give you that extra push, and then it stops slower than a modern car, in SF its a fun game. The CRV was like peace of mind haha

And was the 5 speed out of a 280Z? and if so was it simply a drop-in replacement, or was machining required?

Yeah a rebuilt 280, my friend did it, I think its pretty much a mate up, he didn’t mention any issues. But he is an expert and may not have said anything. Not really thinking about the louvers, they would have to be old aluminum ones, no plastic. I like the lines of the car without them. I hate my side trim, it will go at some point if we repaint and plug the holes.

The cat gets better mileage. Plus I drove my grandma’s around a lot when she had it. Definitely beige, but it handles better than my 04 grand am, and is a good little suv.

Yeah my dad had a 123 all throughout my childhood. Many a roadtrip was made with me and my sister in the back and us getting there “eventually”

That car dropped a cylinder and drove for 3 more years with another owner before i finally lost track of it.

The whole reason I have my E320 (W210) is because the AC didn’t need converting, it has heated seats, and high 20’s mpg on a highway with a 21 gallon tank. It’s no AMG monster that I can boast about but tires aren’t even 400 dollars mounted and every single part is easily found.

Yeah I looked at the other generations and I thought this thing was like a space pod, the e brake is crazy, its quirky in some ways. Its suuuper clean, I was amazed, I was like, this is a 2006? It looks one year old, some minor imperfections that comes with actual use. I know it was an old ladies and it must have been garaged all the time.

People say it’s a boring car but I have an exciting car and a turbo diesel Merc, this is made for use, I can tell it’s very good at what it was designed to do. I wanted another Honda because I’ve had my Accord and I know them pretty well. My old cars have all the vintage feel I need, this is like Japanese space pod, it does what I need it to, its reliable and has a huge cargo space with the seat folded up against the front seats. Once you have two other cars its ok to get one of these. My wife is also not from the US and is learning to drive so the driving position and easy layout of this thing is good for teaching.

It has all the options, but no leather, I didn’t want that. It must be the EX, has alloys, isn’t the one with bumper matching paint color.
